10 SEO Tips for Wine Bloggers

Its not often you see a presentation on SEO where the presenter sips red wine, but that was the scene at the Wine Bloggers Conference last weekend in a seminar with Tim Resnick of (SEO) Moz.

With a glass of wine in one hand and a remote control in the other, Resnick explained why search is important, how to make sites search friendly, and he offered tips for Wine Bloggers

1. Stick With It

In case you succeed. Spend 5% of your time working on SEO to get there.

Use Google Suggests to auto-fill keywords and See what Google Suggests you write about.

For example, type “Pinot” and don’t hit enter, you’ll see “Pinot Noir.” Below “Pinot Noir,” you’ll see “Pinot Grigio,” and “Pinot Noir Food Pairing,” etc.

Use Soolve.com to show you auto suggestions on all search engines.

3. Don’t Get Ripped Off

Google does not like duplication because it wastes their resources and they will penalize for it.

Find duplicates of your posts by googling a sentence of your post. Or use Copyscape.com to help you find duplicates.

4. Find Twitter Influencers

Links are the best way to get ranking, and the best way to get links is through Social Media. So, follow the right people.

Bufferapp.com (by Moz) can be used to analyze your followers to see when they are on twitter. It recommends and reminds you when to tweet.

6. Conquer “Not Provided”

Did you know that in Secure Search the keyword is not provided in all of your traffic? So you only know what keywords drive your traffic in some of the searches.If you are logged into google, keywords are stripped out. For non logged in users, keyword info is retained.

7. Highlighter and Schema

Use Rich Snippets to offer more info by marking up in Webmaster Tools, to help Google know your site better.

Meet the guidelines. Submit your site. Create sitemap. Get an instant bump in traffic.

Use Google Authorship. Marking up content and having your photo presented gives you extra promotion on Search Engine Results Pages (SERP).

Get into Google Plus.With it you’ll win on SERPs over non-Google Plus users

Knowledge Graph. Resnick said this could be a whole seminar by itself, but suggested we search Open Graph Tags and Schema.org to learn more.
