WordCamp is Coming to Vancouver

WordCamp, the boot camp for everything WordPress, is coming to the BCIT campus in Burnaby on October 13.

This year there will be two full-day tracks: one for  Users and one for Developers, so update your iCalendars now!

Organizers Vanessa Chu and Morten Rand-Hendriksen are currently looking for speakers for both Users and Developer tracks.

“WordCamps are non-profit community organized events that rely on the generosity of the community to bring it to life,” says the 2012.vancouver.wordcamp.org site. “If you’re interested in supporting WordCamp Vancouver, please drop us a line at vancouver@nullwordcamp.org and we’ll let you know how you can help!”

What will you do at WordCamp? According to the WordCamp Central site, “WordCamps are meant to be low-key local gatherings that are affordable — cheap, even — to allow people from all walks of life to attend, meet, share, and learn. Sponsorships and donations make this possible, keeping ticket prices low, usually below $40 for a 2-day event. It’s not uncommon to meet WordCamp speakers who are featured at expensive web industry conferences like South by Southwest. WordCamp is one of the best bargains around.

“Sessions generally span a variety of formats, including lectures/presentations, live demos, Q&A, workshops, ignite-style lightning presentations, panels, interviews, and any other format you can imagine. Presentations are shared with the broader WordPress community by posting session slides/videos to the WordCamp channel on WordPress.tv.”

I’ll be there and I hope my Vancouver readers and WordPress Workshoppers will attend as well. The event runs 8am – 5pm, so a resetting drink afterwards will be in order.
